As a century-old brand, Isuzu has had a profound impact on the technological development of light-duty trucks. Known for its exceptional vehicle performance and a stable, reliable reputation, Isuzu has long been favored by users worldwide. Today, we’ll take a look at the Qingling Isuzu 100P, a classic model known as the “benchmark light-duty truck” in the domestic market. So, what new updates have been made to this iconic vehicle?
In terms of exterior design, the Isuzu 100P has undergone a complete redesign. Traditionally, Isuzu vehicles were known for their horizontal and vertical design style, but the new model features a modern grille design. While retaining traditional elements, the angular grille gives the truck a more distinct and dynamic look, closely resembling the design of heavy-duty trucks. This new style is more visually appealing and contemporary.
Inside, the new model has also been fully upgraded with modern elements. The multifunctional steering wheel retains the traditional two-spoke design, but the overall inverted curve design creates more space at the top, offering the driver a better view of the instrument panel.
The new model is equipped with a full digital instrument cluster and a multimedia system, providing a richer set of functions. More importantly, this completely overturns the traditional perception of Isuzu light-duty trucks. The previous generation’s interior had been in service for a long time and left a lasting impression. With the new upgrades, the interior promises a much more comfortable experience.
As a transport vehicle, the powertrain is always a key focus. The Isuzu 100P is powered by the Qingling Isuzu 4KK1N6SD, a 2.499L inline 4-cylinder diesel engine, delivering a maximum output of 97 kW, 132 horsepower, and 320 Nm of torque. This engine is a domestic exclusive product.
Additionally, the new model will also be equipped with the upgraded 4KB1 engine, developed from the 4JB1. This engine offers a maximum power output of 96 kW, 131 horsepower, and 360 Nm of torque, providing a slight increase in torque compared to the current model. While horsepower may not be the highest, the engine is more than capable of handling inclines.
The engine is paired with the Isuzu MSB-5QM 5-speed manual transmission, designed primarily for urban road conditions. This transmission has become one of Isuzu’s most trusted products due to its reliability. For highways, the MYY 6-speed manual transmission can be selected to achieve lower fuel consumption. According to official tests by Qingling, the combination of the 4KK1 engine and MSB/MYY transmission offers a transmission efficiency of up to 98%.
On the chassis, the rear axle ratio is set at 5.571, with the suspension system featuring high-strength steel. The front uses a 3+2 leaf spring suspension, ensuring the vehicle’s load capacity while achieving weight reduction. Additionally, the new model incorporates new materials for steel wheels and air tanks, along with integrated valve components, resulting in a total weight reduction of up to 500 kg. This allows drivers to carry more cargo on each trip.
The overall vehicle dimensions of the Isuzu 100P are 5995x1930x2800 mm, with a wheelbase of 3360 mm. The actual model is equipped with a box-type body, with dimensions of 4250x1850x1810 mm.
As a century-old company, Isuzu’s 100P, with its engine, transmission, and chassis, represents the pure “Isuzu” craftsmanship. Built on these mature products, it has earned a reputation for reliability and performance, including a record of a million kilometers without major repairs. While its power might be on the lower end compared to heavy-duty models, if your transport needs focus on daily goods, hardware, or express delivery, the Isuzu 100P offers an excellent balance of reliability and cost-effectiveness, making it a strong choice.
